Title : Gyrolithe
Concept : slate mobiles designed to embellish gardens

Interpretation
The shape, movement and colour of the mobile change according to environmental conditions. Sunlight and rain alter the brightness and texture of slate pieces. Depending on wind intensity, some parts rotate faster than others, resulting in a vast combination of forms. Aerodynamic forces excite more or less local modes along the chain of slate pieces, also changing the animation of the structure.
The rotation of slate pieces, induced by air forces, transforms the perceived geometry of the mobile, creating the illusion that slate is folding in on itself — a material already folded by telluric forces.

Construction details
The slate pieces are cut using shears or a hammer and anvil. Each piece is connected to the next by a hook–swivel–hook system. An 80 cm suspension wire fitted with a carabiner makes installation of the mobile easier.
The mobile has been designed to withstand rain and strong winds (316 stainless steel, with a safety factor appropriate for dynamic loads). Over several years, the slate may change in appearance, as it does on roofs, developing stains, moss and lichen.
Installation advice
These objects of poetry will find a privileged place in trees, suspended from a sufficiently thick branch (8 cm in diameter recommended) to decouple the vibrations of the mobile from those of the tree. When leaves disappear, another perspective will be discovered.
The mobile must remain free to move. It should be installed so as to prevent the slate pieces from colliding with any nearby object, particularly tree branches, allowing for a 45° inclination in extreme weather conditions.
